I would agree with all your points regarding the prices charged by oldmaps.
I also wrote to them complaining
I am mainly interested in the family history side of things so I pointed out
that the General Register Office only charges 7 pounds for a copy of
birth/death/marriage certificate and Godfrey maps manage to knock out paper
copies of old OS maps at about 2.50 complete with local history notes on the
back, but I got no reply. Perhaps they were too embarrased.
The Guardian has a campaign to "free our data" which you may be interested
in.
