I asked about this in Council yesterday. Nowadays, they do try to follow up
members who don't renew. Majority give as the reason for leaving CILIP, that
they are leaving the profession: either to retire or to take up some other
line of work.
Membership is currently 19,823 - 3.2% down on last year. This from a peak
of, I believe, 22,317 on the formation of CILIP in 2002. Membership has
therefore declined some 11%, over a period during which the number of
advertised jobs in LIS has gone down by a third. It's a big ask, to get the
membership back up within a declining market, but one which I think all the
incoming councillors will be committed to.
We discussed a Membership Marketing Action Plan, and were told that a new
Head of Corporate Marketing & Membership had been appointed.
We'll see what the new year brings...
Bruce

And always a pleasure to have Bruce's friendly & helpful support.
I agree with John - if CILIPS was really interested in knowing why people
let their membership lapse they would take steps to find out.

Really? Don't you think that if they wanted to address the issues they would
have addressed them by now?
