I agree entirely with Pat,
I refuse on principal to vote on something without sufficient
information and I do not consider a candidate's own biography
sufficient. It is a bit like signing something without reading the
small print if you vote with inadequate information, and you reap what
you sow. In the past I have voted accordingly when I did have further
information or knowledge about candidates which inclined me to think
that they were suitable (or in some cases not-suitable) for a particular
post.
In this case, I did not vote. My non-voting does not reflect adversely
on any of the candidates, who may have been eminently suitable, merely
on the quality and quantity of information provided. Given that we all
belong to a profession which is entirely about the provision and
communication of accurate, high quality information, voting on simply
the information which we had would not have been professional. Perhaps
the people who did vote had further, better information or prior
knowledge of the candidates?
Having just also seen the email which informs us that there were online
hustings, but they were not well used, all I can say is that this just
demonstrates the inadequacies of CILIP communities and the general
clunkiness of the CILIP site. Busy people need 'push' technologies.
They haven't got time to go digging.
