Comments:
1. This shows how the "experts" really think about us, about our abilities
or differences: completely negative with no positives, subhuman, without any
innate resources and needing to be rescued by the "saviors" who are basically
psychiatrists etc. An ad agency takes the content and info from the
"experts" (NYU Child Study Center) and designs an eye catching campaign. But the
ideas and content come from the NYU Center.
2. The "experts" are not interested in what the people who are portrayed (or
their guardians) have to say about the ads. In other articles I have read,
the head of the NYU Center discusses how he has considered the objections of
some of the disability rights organizations and has dismissed them.
Obviously, he knows best. There is no feedback loop in psychiatry, since we all
crazy and untrustworthy and consequently, it is not necessary to listen to us.
