Dear list
Can anyone help with information on either of the following engines were
used at Keld Heads Mine in Wensleydale?
Wellan in 1859 states that the Keld Heads Co had two steam engines, 1
condensing engine and one high pressure engine.
I have a reference to Hathorn & Davy of Leeds providing an engine in 1856
along with a 20R boiler, pump & beam and a capstan extra.
I am fairly sure that one engine was placed at Cobscar Shaft which was about
300 feet deep at the time. The other I think was placed on a shallower shaft
at Heron Tree which was most likely the Hathorn & Davy engine (at least the
date fits this shaft best). Could this be an easily moveable engine or would
it need a building to house it? Does anyone know of drawing of such engines?
Thanks in advance
