This site provides free access to the full text of a 76 paper which
analyses in detail long term trends and changes in political opinion
amongst the Australian electorate during the period 1987-2004. It uses
data taken from the Australian Election Study. Topics covered include
voting patterns; attitudes towards particular political parties, policy
issues and election campaigns.

Irish Virtual Research Library and Archive

Irish Virtual Research Library and Archive (IVRLA) is based in
University College Dublin It aims to make freely available via the
Internet digitised collections of printed, audio, video, and image
materials from the collection of UCD. These cover a wide range of
subject areas from the humanities and social sciences. Topics covered
include the history of Irish emigration; historical maps of Ireland;
materials relating to Irish dialects, Gaelic and folklore culture;
manuscripts and prints relating to Irish political and social
history.They include some resources useful for the study of topics such
as Irish political history, home rule, nationalism and relations with
the UK.

An official website of the US government which provides free access to a
wealth of materials relating to the history and current representation
of women in the United States Congress. It includes statistical facts,
essays about Women's suffrage and political representation; profiles and
photographs of current and historical female members of both houses; and
an online digital library of artefacts. The latter comprises an
extremely interesting collection of images of political campaign badges,
posters, and magazine covers related to the history of women in
Congress.

USC Shoah Foundation

The USC Shoah Foundation is part of the College of Letters, Arts &
Sciences at the University of Southern California. It maintains a
collection of oral histories of holocaust survivors. Its website
provides information on its aims and activities. It includes a
collection of online taped testimonies from survivors of Nazi
concentration camps. Also accessible is a large resource area for
teachers. This includes its innovative video resources which integrate
online oral history accounts with other learning activities. Topics
covered include: the Holocaust through the eyes of child survivors,The
Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, surviving the Auschwitz II-Birkenau
concentration camp. Also supplied are suggested lesson plans and links
to related educational sites. Technical and copyright materials are
displayed on the website.

PORT: postgraduate online research training

PORT: postgraduate online research training is a series of free online
research tutorials and guides designed for postgraduate (Masters and PhD
students) studying Romance and Germanic languages and cultures. It is
maintained by staff of the Institute of Germanic & Romance Studies
University of London and would be most useful for students of French,
Spanish, Portuguese, German, Polish; Czech and Italian studies. It also
includes some general guidance on preparing research proposals, writing
dissertations and preparing CVs which would be of value to all
postgraduates. The language sections include guides to key websites,
directories of leading UK and overseas research institute, libraries and
publications.

aims to encourage academic researchers to create and share bookmarks of
key internet resources (articles, journals, web resources) in private or
public groups. Registration is required to use all the web 2.0 features.
However it is possible to search the bookmarks without registration.
There is a blog which alerts to new features on the website.

A site created by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in
Washington (CREW) that seeks to enhance democracy by enabling users to
search responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA USA) requests, read
the documents and make responses. These cover all aspects of American
government policy and include reports and memos which certain government
departments have allowed to remain unpublished/ classified.

The Atlantic Monthly was founded in Boston in 1857. It remains one of
America's influential literary, cultural and political monthly journals.
This version (which is made available via Cornell University) provides a
searchable database of all articles and book reviews published from
1857-1901. They include examples of contemporary literature, plus
comment on political and social issues. Typical topics covered include:
American foreign policy and role in the world, slavery and emancipation,
the role of women, American politics, elections and presidents.

PANDORA is a major project of the National Library of Australia which
aims to archive key Australian Internet resources and websites for
posterity. The website is divided into a number of subject categories.
which cover all areas of the social sciences, humanities and sciences.
This section preserves materials relating to state and federal elections
in Australia from 1996 onwards. There are large separate collections for
the 2004 and 2007 elections. These include snapshots of sites taken
during different stages of the campaigns. They include websites
maintained by political parties, candidates, news services; media and
lobby groups. Copyright and technical information is supplied on the
website.
