I mentioned earlier that - personally - I'm fairly relaxed (within
limits*) about how VOs decide to distribute the resources allocated to
them.
[I appreciate your mail isn't meant to be a formal, exhaustive report!]
My obvious concern, (even) if the RSA challenge is deemed to be a valid
biomed activity, is that it is not yet clear - but needs to be - that
someone _within the VO__ decided that it was acceptable to divert
significant resources away from gene sequencing and into prime numbers.
Incidentally, that concern is partly fuelled by only one - Heinz - of the
individuals mentioned in David's mail [also not meant to be a formal,
exhaustive report, etc.] appearing in the output from
voms-admin -u "https://voms-biomed.in2p3.fr:8443/voms/biomed" list-users
So a supplementary, unconnected question: can site admins, etc. assume
that VO managers and decision makers will actually be registered in it,
Grid-wise? I can't see how to be a member of a VO without registering in
it, by definition, but...
(for the larger VOs, I doubt the whole chain of command will fit nicely
into a usable CIC Portal page)
* one such limit being the submission of work for the purpose of
subsequent financial reward - at some point along the spectrum that _does_
turn into commercial use and could open a whole can of worms.
I probably wouldn't have thought to take it into account myself either,
though!
Thanks
Henry
