If I ever get a job which gives me time to develop it further, then my
PhD thesis was developing an alternative scheduling strategy to the LCG
Resource Broker using a generalization of ClassAds and a hierarchical
inherited schema, including both static and dynamic aspects. Scheduling
decisions can be made in stages, and a "resource descriptor" can be
multi-valued (i.e. allowing an aggregated resource to advertise multiple
processor types or memory configurations). It was designed to address
exactly these problems that the LHCb computing group had with
appropriately scheduling jobs onto LCG resources, and the major
shortcomings (in 2004) with the LCG Resource Broker. I understand some
of these shortcomings are still present today.
