Please may I draw your attention to the following vacancy at the
University of St Andrews Library's Department of Special Collections.

****THIS JOB WILL NOT BE ADVERTISED IN ARC****

Photographic Archivist, Special Collections Department, University of St
Andrews Library
Closing date: 22 November 2007

£27,857 - £33,262 per annum

The University of St Andrews Library has a vacancy for an archivist to
play a leading role in the management and development of its outstanding
photographic collections. Reporting to the Head of Special Collections,
you will manage the work of the team which curates the photographic
collections, lead in the ongoing development and implementation of
policies relating to the preservation, digitisation and exploitation of
the collections (both within the University and externally), and develop
the collections through acquisition.

This is a tremendous opportunity for a qualified archivist (or someone
able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience) to work with
one of the UK's most important photographic collections. You will have a
passionate interest in the history of photography, and should have a
good working knowledge of photographic processes and their various
preservation issues. You will also be highly IT literate, with specific
knowledge of both archival and digital imaging systems and be familiar
with relevant metadata and descriptive standards, an excellent
communicator who is able to engage effectively with academic, public and
commercial communities, skilled in management and leadership, and a team
player who will be able to make a positive contribution both as a senior
member of the Special Collections team and as manager of the experienced
photographic team.

For an informal discussion of the post, potential candidates are invited
to contact the Head of Special Collections, Dr Norman Reid, by email to
[log in to unmask], or by telephone to 01334-462339.

Further particulars and full details of the application procedure are to
be found under job ref. 067/07 on the University's current vacancies
list on the website at: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/employment/
