Samurai P,
Perhaps one day you'll have an opportunity to catch this magic lantern
show, which may bring back memories of the aesthetes, decadents, and
dandies of your youth.
"This will be the most original and moving show of our whole season! La
Maison Française brings to DC six performers to animate a unique Magic
Lantern Show.
This world-class entertainment will bring you back to the days before
cinéma. You will be amazed by the inventiveness and the “brilliance” of
this performance!
Laterna Magica Galantee Show was started by Herman Bollaert from Belgium,
who has been collecting artifacts relating to this ancient art form
throughout Europe. He is assisted by artists working in theatre, puppet
shows, photography, film and music. The show uses authentic materials to
create animation: numerous hand-painted slides and one of the last “tri-
unial” lanterns remaining in the world. Having this extremely rare – and
heavy – object fly across the Atlantic was a tour de force!
The whole performance is supported by live music: piano, trumpet, clarinet,
voice.
Audiences have always been captivated by this unique excursion into the
past, by the lantern's magic, by this true phantasmagoria of light, color,
moving images, and music."
