Glad you like them, Candice. Practically the first thing I do in my
introductory poetry class is to draw two circles on the board, one small,
one large, and say, "Everyone believes that there are two worlds: the
'private life' that contains dreams, emotions, relationships, the self, and
some safety, and a huge scary world 'out there' with politics, history,
hurricanes and galaxies. This belief is false." Then I merge the two
circles.
I'd forgotten the phrase "action at a distance." Now will add it to my
store of possible titles. In high school I had a friend, a notable deadpan
wit, who used it whenever an attractive girl passed.
