THE COMPASS OF RESISTANCE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Main Festival Weekend – 3-4 November 2007

Programme Information
Bristol's Compass of Resistance International Film Festival main programme
of screenings, events and workshops takes place next weekend on 3rd-4th
November, when films from this year's five focus countries – India, Russia,
Jamaica, Algeria and England – fill the screens of Bristol's Watershed cinema.

The festival's new internet pages are open at www.compass-film.co.uk where
you can find detailed information about the programme of films and events.
Here is the breakdown of what's happening:

Saturday 3rd November
Screenings at Watershed
10.45 Days of Glory (2h 10m). Oscar-nominated (2006) film that presents the
forgotten history of the 130,000 North-Africans who were enlisted to fight
alongside the French in WWII. The film faithfully chronicles the prejudice
and cruel discrimination that these men suffered at the hands of their
French counterparts.

11.00 Peter Watkins Double Bill: Culloden and The War Game with Introduction

Culloden that changed the social and political landscape of the Scottish
Highlands.

13.25 Life and Debt (1h 35m). Based on Jamaica Kincaid's A Small Place, Life
and Debt is a probing documentary into the social, economic and political
legacy of the island of Jamaica, and the effects of US policy and external
pressures on the lives of ordinary Jamaicans.

15.15 The Lighthouse with Discussion (2h 05m). The outbreak of war in the
town of her birth forces Lena to leave Moscow, the city of her escape, and
return to this place of her past: a small, unidentified village in a corner
of the Caucasus.

20.00 The Harder They Come with Discussion (2h 45m). A Jamaican cult film in
which Jimmy Cliff stars as the anti-hero reggae singer trying to make it big
in the city. Set in the ghettos of seventies downtown Kingston to the
classic soundtrack of a now all-star reggae line-up. A must-see for any
reggae enthusiasts.
