Essential Skills seminar 1: Information Literacy: Getting to grips with
the Google Generation.

Further info: This workshop-based session is aimed at staff new to
information literacy. It provides some valuable basics on what information
literacy is, how it relates to other 'digital literacies' and how it
applies across the library sectors. The session is led by Jane Secker from
the LSE, who is one of the editors of the Information Literacy Cookbook,
published by Chandos this year. It should provide plenty of food for
thought and tips for planning a good training session, however,
participants should also be prepared for group activities and stimulating
discussion!

Essential Skills seminar 2: Budgeting and Financial Skills.
Seminar leader: Anne Poulson, Librarian, School of Oriental and African
Studies, University of London.
Further info: This seminar will cover the basic principles of budgeting
and financial management. It is aimed at anyone who has not yet managed a
large financial portfolio but who wishes to develop their skills in this
area. Topics to be covered will include making sense of financial
reporting systems; understanding how to manage different kinds of budgets;
developing the area of income generation.

Essential Skills seminar 3: CVs and interview skills from an employer's
perspective.
Seminar leader: Sue Hill and her team.
Further info: Hints, tips and advice from the employer's angle. A lively
presentation on practical ways to make your CV stand out from the crowd
and ensure that you and your skills are well presented. Delegates will be
asked to bring a version of their current CV and will work in groups to
analyse and improve their offerings. This is an excellent opportunity to
use the knowledge of a recruitment agency which represents clients in all
information sectors.
