Subject: [CORECONTENT] BMJ collection clarification on national deal
Dear all,
You have asked for some clarification on the NHS national deal with BMJ.
BMJ Journals Online Collection - transition to e-only access:
The NHS and BMJ Group have agreed on a transitional model to e-only access
for the BMJ Group Journals Online Collection (22 titles including
supplements) by 2011. In Year One (running from 1st April 2008) we require
10% of all NHS print purchases to be cancelled. In Year Two we require 50%
of all NHS print purchases to be cancelled; and in Year Three we require
all NHS print purchases to BMJ Group Journals' content to have been
cancelled to make this a cost effective model of purchasing. This new
pricing model has secured the most competitive price possible for this
collection.
BMJ - maintain print + additional online access:
It is expected that the BMJ itself (single title) will continue to be
purchased in print, which is why the national pricing for electronic access
to BMJ.com is based on the NHS maintaining print subscriptions to this
specific title (over the same 3 year period).
Individual libraries can cancel more than 10% of their print in year One as
long as the overall NHS print cancellation is not greater than 10% for year
one.
