This happened to us once, not a power cut but someone unplugged the fridge!
We had a maximum/Minimum thermometer in the fridge so were able to see just
how high the temperature had gone. I rang the manufacturers of the various
vaccines and drugs in the fridge and asked their advice and we didn't have
to destroy everything. I cant remember specifically which vaccines.
I try to have systems in place to protect the contents, for example locking
the fridge at night, huge notice asking people not to keep the door open
while they faff about but its still a risky business. Main horror for me is
flu jab time when the fridge is so full of stuff that the air cannot
circulate and I have doubts about how well the cold chain is maintained. We
also have a book in which the daily check should be written. I am not sure
that it is ever filled in!
Vaccines can be out of a fridge for a number of hours without losing
efficacy, but its important to know how long they were out.
Insuring the contents of the fridge is quite expensive for something that
does not happen often but worth it when it does happen.
