Those of you who make their way to
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/signaturebox/
will find my name.
If you survive the surprise at my having expressed an opinion on
something, let alone urging the newly promoted to first lord of the
treasury to a specific action, you might care to consider the
anal-retentive perversion of any true representation of your character
that your signatures undergo when constrained into the box provided in
various forms.
And sign it.
Those of you who like being constrained into a box, fine.
... petition reads:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to direct that
official forms which require a signature within a box provide a
box bigger than our signature.
many forms - passport, driving licence for instance - are
scanned into electronic systems.
The signature is required to be in a particular place, in a
box.
Instead of providing a tiny box and getting a cramped and
unrealistic signature, plus an unknown number of discarded or
rejected forms because the writing has strayed out of the box,
a box larger than all reasonable signatures should be
mandatory.
This is a rule which might usefully be applied to commercial
forms as well, however the PM is in a position to instruct the
civil service to simply act and should do so.
