Dear All,
Can anyone suggest some advice as to how I can get my system working as
before again?
We used to have 2 BT lines until recently, one dedicated to Broadband
only. Because we have now been able to make the alarm filtered we have
been able to reduce to one incoming line for domestic calls and
Broadband. A fairly straightforward job involved visits by 3 BT
engineers and at least 5 hours on the phone to the 'service centres'
scattered over the globe, from Scotland to Delhi before we were sorted,
but that is another tale.
I had to reconfigure our internet account after we were converted to the
single line which involved putting the new values into the router -
fairly straightforward, or so I thought. (The ISP - Demon- said that I
had to close the original account and start another). The Protocol type
advised was PPPoA (which meant little at the time, just banged it in)
and lo and behold the system worked.
Well, sort of. Firefox and Thunderbird are fine. IE7 is OK on my laptop
which I use wirelessly. However my wife, who uses the main computer for
her work needs to use IE7 occasionally as Firefox does not allow
One-click answers (answers.com) which she finds a very useful facility.
If there is a word definition of spelling to check a left click on the
word used to bring up the dictionary definition immediately.
Now trying to launch MS IE7 leads to a dialog - trying to connect
through WAN PPPoE - which it cannot. I can't see how to tell it to use
the other protocol. It seems to know that we are connected but not how
to access it.
I hope this is slightly clearer to someone out there than it is to me.
The Networking pages on Vista are somewhat opaque and I am only just
within my level of competence.
Any ideas gratefully received.
