We've had a lot of problems getting auto start to work on OS X, and of
course with the arrival of Leopard the SystemStarter method employed
is now essentially gone from the OS to be replaced with launchd (see
http://wiki.gridengine.info/wiki/index.php/GridEngine_launchd for
details).
The startup script that mostly works is at:
https://www.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/phpwiki/index.php/SGEAppleStartupScript
If you have your SGE root on an NFS share then your mileage may vary
as it is very difficult to persuade Mac OS X to wait until the mounts
are live before running this script. You would have thought that
adding 'NFS' to the list of requires would achieve this, but instead
the script only runs if you are running an NFS *Server* on this
machine. In this situation you can fiddle about with 'at' and
relaunching the startup scripts after 30 seconds or so (allowing the
system to fully start). See http://gridengine.sunsource.net/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=users&msgNo=10550
for details.
