RESEARCH FELLOW
DESIGN OPTIMISATION OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
CRANFIELD UNIVERSITY, UK
£27,665 per annum
Closing date for receipt of applications: 23 NOVEMBER 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cranfield University is one of the leading research centres in design optimisation using evolutionary computing. It is in a unique position to develop world-class research in this area by exploiting its synergy with our research activities in product-service systems, micro-systems and nanotechnology, and soft computing. The Decision Engineering Centre that hosts this position provides a vibrant and dynamic environment for multidisciplinary research and industrial collaboration in engineering design.
This is an exciting new position to support the continual growth of Cranfield's research portfolio in 'Design Optimisation of Products and Services'. With the increasing market demand for miniaturised products, enhanced business focus on service engineering and fast growth in computing technologies, this area now offers new exciting opportunities. This position will explore new research in this area by: (i) expanding the boundary of optimisation algorithms to micro/nano scale designs, and (ii) examining the role and organisation of information for the optimisation of service and support solutions. This will establish novel links between design optimisation and the domains of micro-systems/nanotechnology and product-service systems. You will be expected to develop new research proposals, manage relationships with industry and develop further interests in these areas.
You will have a PhD (or should be close to completion) in a relevant discipline such as mechanical engineering, computer science, information systems/technology or other relevant discipline. In addition, a First or Second Class UK Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is required. Some research/work experience in design optimisation, evolutionary computing and programming would be preferred. You will work within the existing team and contribute to existing design optimisation research at Cranfield. You will require research proposal writing, organisation, analytical, communication (oral and written), technical paper and article writing, and client handling skills.
The position is for a fixed term of four years. For informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Ashutosh Tiwari, Senior Lecturer and Course Director, E: [log in to unmask] T: +44 (0)1234 758250.
Application forms and further details are available from the Human Resources Department, Cranfield University, Cranfield, Bedford MK43 0AL.
