PRESS RELEASE
Europe at the cutting edge of nanotechnology development (21 November
2007)Policy-makers, scientists and industrialists came together in
Braga, Portugal to discuss the future of nanotechnology research in
Europe. This comes at a positive time for European nanotechnology, with
the public-private research partnerships for nanoelectronics and
embedded systems close to becoming a reality, the European Commission
identified as being the single largest investor in nanotechnology
research, and a recently-completed public consultation on the principles
for responsible nanotechnology research. But it is important to maintain
momentum if Europe is not to miss the opportunities to be offered by
this exciting area of science and technology.

EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
ECTA Annual Regulatory Conference 2007
28 November 2007 - 30 November 2007 Brussels, BelgiumThe European
Commission has just adopted the proposals for the reform of the EU
telecoms rules. This has triggered an extensive debate on how to best
promote investment and sustainable competition and a truly single market
for telecoms services. Should we establish a European Communications
Agency? Should regulators be able to mandate functional separation of
dominant firms? Should we harmonise spectrum allocation and introduce
trading? And what will be the implications for regulators, competition
authorities, the sector and consumers of the extensive deregulation of
telecoms markets expected in the Review? These and other questions
including how best to maintain and promote competition in a 'next
generation' environment with increasing convergence between fixed and
mobile offers and bundling of services will be explored in discussions
involving representatives from the Commission, regulators, national
Governments, the European Parliament, industry and user associations.
