With apologies for cross-posting, please find below a call for papers for
the 2008 RGS-IBG Conference, London, 27-29th August.
FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS:
Gender Matters,
Paper Session Sponsored by the Women and Geography Study Group (WGSG)
Organiser: Julie MacLeavy, University of Bristol
Geographical analyses of gender have traditionally been led by feminist
scholars. Increasingly, however, academics working in cultural studies,
queer theory and postcolonial theory are transforming the way in which
gender is considered in and beyond the discipline.
This proposed session will examine the theoretically eclectic underpinnings
of new and emerging geographies of gender, and also highlight the growing
interest in gender, space and place across the social sciences.
Papers are solicited that critically consider a whole range of research on
gender. These may be from a range of theoretical positions and/or by means
of empirical study. Key concepts such as identity, subjectivity,
embodiment, materiality and value will be addressed.
It is hoped that through the detailed consideration of a broad range of
papers, we may interrogate the ways in which gender still matters in the
study and practice of geography today.
Please send expressions of interest in the form of a 200 word abstract to
Julie MacLeavy ([log in to unmask]) by 10th January 2008. The
final deadline for the submission of paper and sessions abstracts to the
RGS-IBG is 22 February 2008.
