Onderwerp: Lythrum species?
Dear all,
Could someone help us with the identification of these seeds? They were
numerously present in a waterwell recovered from a medieval site in the
coversand area in the southern Netherlands.
The closest we can come is Lythrum portula, but shape and size are a little
bit different from the Lythrum portula species in our collection, i.e. the
ventral side is convex instead of flat/concave and the size is somewhat
smaller. Also, these seeds seem to be missing the brown layer on the ventral
side (but maybe this is because of the subfossil state).
We're at a loss, so all help will be greatly apreciated.
Kind regards,
Wouter van der Meer
