Research Assistant / Fellow in Biostatistics
Biostatistics Unit
Centre for Epidemiology & Biostatistics
University of Leeds
This new post offers an opportunity to work in a large, dynamic research group with an established reputation in statistical epidemiology. You will also benefit from working with leading experts in the field of biostatistics. You will publish in leading journals in these areas and be a key part of a large team of epidemiologists and statisticians. Using novel state-of-the-art statistical techniques you will research aspects of statistical modelling of missing data and performance indicators in an extensive nationwide study of acute coronary syndromes. This pioneering work of international importance is funded by a major grant from the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Using this important dataset, you will:
1) Explore the impact of various imputation methods
2) Develop imputation methods appropriate to the dataset, including Bayesian and latent variable methods
3) Explore established performance indicators for acute coronary syndromes
4) Develop contemporary case-mix adjusted performance indicators
5) Explore models of cardiovascular disease
With a minimum first degree in mathematics / statistics, you will be familiar with a range of statistical software packages such as R / S-Plus, Stata, and WinBUGS. You will preferably have experience in the statistical modelling of large and complex biomedical observational data. A PhD or equivalent and an existing publication record in a relevant area are desirable for Research Assistant and essential for Research Fellow. Additional training, guidance and mentoring will be given appropriate to your grade and personal skills. The post is available immediately for a fixed term of three years in the first instance.
