Hi Alyson,
There are some standards re accessibility in RNIB's visibly better for
residential care- it has been developed from part M etc.
Contact [log in to unmask] for more.
Nothing in it covers the size of room though, however, in Wales
extracare (not res care I know) has to be built to development quality
requirements which comprise lifetime homes etc which does cover sizes of
room. I tried attaching but it bounced. Have a look on the WAG site.
Hope it helps.

Alyson,
Following a lot of work with the local inspection teams I've been
prompted by them to try to draft something because collectively we
couldn't find anything appropriate to the situations that tended to
arise.
I have relied on the experience of OT's, the homes and the inspection
teams using as a basis the BS.
I only have working notes so if anyone knows of anything please tell me
soon before I write too much more.
Thanks

Subject: Residential Homes
Does anyone know of a standard for accessibility for residential homes
for elderly people? For example, proportion of accessible bedrooms to
standard bedrooms etc. We have a proposal for a res. home which will
have identical bedrooms, all with standard en suite. I cannot see
anything in Part M or BS8300, and cannot find any regulations or best
practice on-line.
Thanks.
