Hi Jen,
Basically we've had bad experiences with Veritas/Symantec BackupExec so
I'm not sure I would recommend going with them. However we are now two
versions behind (using 9.1 and 11d is the latest release) so the latest
release may be much improved. The Symantec forums usually give a good
basis to get a feel for the product and the community is usually quite
helpful -

I really depends on what you want to backup - if its just a
single/couple of servers (not too much data) with BB content, DB backups
and system state then BackupExec would probably do the job. However it
has really struggled on an enterprise level in our experience (over 70
servers and 2TB+ data). To be fair though proper enterprise level backup
products do cost a lot more (NetBackup, Galaxy, etc).
Also, if you have purchased a hard drive to backup BB specifically what
about just scheduling a copy of the content folder and database backup
files to the disk? Depends then on what retention period they want and
whether these files are going to be dumped to tape.
Kind Regards,

Subject: Blackboard back up
Dear Bb User Group,
We are about to purchase a hard drive to back up our Blackboard system
and
had been considering Veritas.
I wondered if anyone had any advice / recommendations on what to
purchase?
Or advice on Blackboard back up procedures in general? We have the
Blackboard Learning System - Basic Licence v7.1.
Kind regards,
Jen Fuller
