Dear List,
Does anybody here know when the first photographically-reproduced facsimile of a book or manuscript was published?
Facsimiles had been around since before the invention of photography, using other techniques such as etching, but I would like to know when photography came to play a role. The idea itself was indirectly suggested by Fox Talbot, who c. 1840s, produced a photograph of a manuscript of Byron's "Ode to Napoleon".
Many thanks
Wim
