There are likely to be some sources existing in legal material relating
to the evidential value of identification evidence which will be of
interest in this type of circumstance. More specifically I am thinking
of issues arising where a witness who has seen images of a person they
subsequently identify as an offender. There will be case law and other
material covering this.
Thinking about the motivations involved it seems possible that some
injured parties will wish to improved their images prior to posting
them as a means of increasing their chances of tracking the offenders
as well as keeping their good name for posting quality material on
their chosen home site.

Subject: surveillance video on YouTube
A local store owner here in Arizona was robbed and, after contacting
the
police, posted the store's surveillance video of the theft on YouTube
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S4Xmh6-Uak -- related story in the
Arizona Republic
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1106mr-cigarrobb1106.html ).
Anyone know if there is precedent for individuals or owners to post
their own surveillance video online? Often when we see bits of store
surveillance it's either been released to the media and/or through the
police. It would seem to raise additional privacy concerns since this
is
not released by police (all customers faces are clearly seen, etc.).
Just curious what the list thought of this. Any sources on the legal
uses of private surveillance tape?
