Dear colleagues,
I am looking to buy (well, make an application to our department's
equipment fund for purchasing, by 11th Dec) a flatbed scanner that would
be attached to a dedicated PC in the library.
The scanner would be available to be used for scanning from books and
journals by our members 24/7 to enhance our photocopying facilities (our
photocopiers cannot be left on out of hours for various reasons and our
journals cannot be removed from the library).
It will need to be as quiet as possible and capable of scanning books and
journals (in loose issue or bound format). I suspect that it would also
need to be an A3 sized scanner to cope with the variety of sizes that
these items are in. It might also be useful to have the option of
attaching a document feeder.
Can anyone recommend such a scanner? And if anyone offers a similar
facility in their libraries, are there any disadvantages?
Specialist book scanners appear to cost a fortune so I don't think I'll be
going down that route, unless anyone can recommend a reasonably priced one.
I have found an Epson DT15000 model which is supposed to be suitable for
educational use (scanning textbooks for example), but these types of
scanners seem hard to come by and a personal recommendation would be
really useful.
Many thanks,
Best wishes,
Clair
