Hi,
We're at the early stages of development on a University-size IR. We've
got a hardware platform that should see us through the pilot stages, but
we're approaching the time when we'll need to start budgeting for
hardware on which to run the a full production system. We're probably
looking at a Fedora-based system, run on Linux.
I realize this is a very vague and naive question and that the answer
depends entirely on the local ground truth, but does anyone have
examples of hardware configurations that support IRs containing, say, a
few hundred thousand objects and up? I've found lots of documentation
on content models and software design and integration, but not much on
hardware configurations. Is there any good source of such info?
It's an unfortunate side effect of the budget cycle that we have to
start thinking about this now, before we have a working pilot to
analyze, but that's where we are, and I need to start thinking about how
much money we'll need to hit up our administration for next year :-).
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide,
Hugh
