Post-Doc - fMRI studies on the functional anatomy of language in hearing
and deaf: POSITION: A postdoctoral fellowship position is available as
part of a multi-disciplinary fMRI research team under the Center for
Visual Language and Visual Learning (VL2). VL2 is a Science of Learning
Center (SLC) funded by the National Science Foundation and housed at
Gallaudet University, Washington, DC. The purpose of VL2 is to gain a
greater understanding of the biological, cognitive, linguistic,
sociocultural, and pedagogical conditions that influence the acquisition
of language and knowledge through the visual modality.
This post-doctoral position offers an opportunity to work with a team of
investigators collecting fMRI and behavioral data as part of the same
research effort at different geographical locations. The goal of the study
is to gain a better understanding of the neural basis of reading, signing
and fingerspelling in hearing and deaf individuals. Investigators involved
in this project: Drs. David Corina (UC Davis), Peter Hauser (Rochester
Institute of Technology), Guinevere Eden (Georgetown U), and Karen Emmorey
(San Diego State U).
The position will involve the acquisition of fMRI data locally and
analysis of these data and data collected at other sites. The position's
institutional home can be either U.C. Davis, Rochester Institute of
Technology, or Georgetown University, with strong collaboration occurring
across these sites. Applicants should be highly motivated and hard
working, have significant research experience and strong references. fMRI
background preferred, but not essential. Quantitative/ analytical skills
and a background in psychology/neuroscience are desirable. CVs and names
of 3 references should be submitted to [log in to unmask] by Dec.
