The British Library’s science, technology and medicine collection is one of
the most comprehensive in the UK, ranging from historical manuscripts and
images to the most up-to-date electronic journals and databases. The
Library is also home to the notebooks and personal collections of numerous
scientists.
The Library’s Learning team offers an exciting programme of workshops,
activities and online resources for teachers and learners of all ages. Each
year, the onsite programme attracts more than 10,000 visitors who attend
workshops, study days and conferences.
We are currently exploring new ways school-age learners can engage with the
science collections in inspiring and exiting ways. We are looking for an
experienced researcher who is familiar with school-based learning to assist
in the development of this new programme by researching the collections and
producing recommendations on how they could be leveraged for a schools
audience. This research will inform the development of new onsite science
activities focusing on research skills.
You will be required to undertake individual research (with support from
science curators) and provide suggestions for themes to explore. You will
need a basic knowledge of science curricula and an excitement for science
communication.
We estimate this initial piece of work will take 5 days at £150 per day.
The timing of the work can be negotiated.
Please apply by emailing a CV and covering letter to [log in to unmask],
particularly highlighting any experience working with collections and/or
schools. Closing date: Monday 19th November, 5pm
