Public Discussion: The Police DNA Database
Thursday 15 November
6pm – 7.30pm
Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre (The Tube), Harbour Drive, Brittania Quay, Cardiff CF10 4PA.
Advances in DNA technology has revolutionised the way the police can protect the public. The creation of a Police DNA Database has helped them to identify offenders and secure convictions such as in the case of Sarah Payne. Crimes which had been previously unsolved for several years have now been solved.
At present, a DNA sample is taken at a person’s arrest and the information is kept indefinitely – even if the person is not found guilty of the offence.
There are now calls for the DNA Database to be expanded to include everyone living or visiting the UK.
