We ran into this a few years ago. The view we took was that health
surveillance per se was not warranted as there was no current exposure.
I did a one off health assessment for each, where I documented formally
that they had been exposed in the past. I did lung function as well as
the usual BP, urine etc and the usual health education/lifestyle
discussions -I put a lot of emphasis into the benefits of not smoking,
given the interaction between smoking and asbestos.
I did not do chest x rays - this decision was based on an HSE circular
at the time advising that this was not generally appropriate. If I can
lay my hands on it I will forward it to you.
