Hello
did anyone see the programme last night on BBC2 by Stephen Fry, 'HIV and
me'. It was excellent and certainly raises concerns amongst people who
continue to adopt risky practices and behaviour.
However this leads me to raise the question again on routine HIV testing.
The new DOH guidance suggest that new NHS employees are offered HIV
testing, whereas those undertaking EPP have to be tested.
My concern, as raised before on this list, are those who work for Agencies,
and who have come to the UK form countries where HIV/AIDS is present in as
much as a quarter of the population. Should these not be tested?
We have Policies whereby those from areas where TB is endemic are screened
so surely this should also be the case in relation to HIV especially as
more people are migrating to the UK and working in health providing
settings.
What do others think?
Regards
Glenn
