A postdoctoral position in the field of high resolution rotational and
vibrational spectroscopy is available in the laboratory of Dr. Jennifer van
Wijngaarden at the University of Manitoba (http://www.umanitoba.ca) in
Winnipeg, Canada. The position is available starting in early 2008 and the
initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension
to a second year upon mutual agreement.
The research will involve the study of molecular ions and radicals using a
combination of FT microwave and FT infrared spectroscopy. The latter work is
carried out at the far infrared beamline at the Canadian Light Source
synchrotron facility in Saskatoon, Canada. The species of interest are
reactive intermediates in chemical reactions ranging from combustion to
chemical vapour deposition to astrophysical processes. For additional
information, please visit: http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~vanwijng/index.html
Candidates with a PhD in chemistry or physics and laboratory experience in
high resolution molecular spectroscopy are encouraged to apply. Applications
should include a CV (including publication list and contact information for
three referees) and a cover letter. The letter should indicate the preferred
start date, a brief description of research interests and skills and a
statement of your long term career goals. The application should be
submitted electronically to Dr. van Wijngaarden ([log in to unmask]).
Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the
position is filled.
The University of Manitoba was founded in 1877 and is the province’s
largest, most comprehensive, research-intensive post-secondary educational
institution. The university has an enrolment of approximately 24,000
undergraduate students + 3,000 graduate students and is home to a wide range
of research centers and institutes.
Located near the geographical center of North America and at the confluence
of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers, Winnipeg is the capital city of the
province of Manitoba. With a population of ~630 000, the city combines the
amenities of urban life with easy access to the countryside, northern lakes
and forests.
