CONFERENCE:
Television News, Young People and Politics: Generation Disconnected?
A Brunel University conference organised in conjunction with the BFI
and the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
Friday 7th December – Sunday 9th December 2007
Location: BFI Southbank
This conference aims to bring together broadcasters, media activists,
academics, young people and NGOs working with young people to discuss
how young people and politics are represented on television news. Young
people are at the cutting edge of a more generalized tendency towards
disengagement from both mainstream formal politics and television news.
The conference explores some of the causes, effects and possible
futures of this situation, including the relationship between
television and new media technology.
Speakers include: Steve Barnett, Cary Bazalgette, David Buckingham,
Sylvia Harvey, David Miller, Greg Philo, Nick Robinson (BBC), Margaret
Scammell, Chris Shaw (C5), Jon Snow (C4) & Carole Tongue (former MEP).
A booking form and complete schedule is available on the conference
