Friends/
I'm pleased to see discussion on the merits/de-merits of social networking sites ...
As It So Happens: I am the process of profiling five SciTech social networking sites (SNS) for my next SCI-5 column for _Science & Technology Libraries_ (to be published later this year/early next year)
(BTW: Previous SCI-5 column on Scitech wikis [ http://www.public.iastate.edu/~gerrymck/Sci5Wikis.pdf])
I've created a blog that will be devoted to profiles SciTech SNS like the _Nature Network_ at
[http://scitechnet.blogspot.com/ ]
NO Content Yet ... But ... Profiles are currently in *draft* form and will be posted at least once a week in October beginning later this week (so subscribe to the RSS feed won't you?) [:-)
In the meantime, visit (and subscribe) to _Friends_ , my blog "devoted to social networking sites for engaged library services" available

Well said Phil Bradley! It's refreshing to hear this said so clearly. I think we should be the ones to see teh positive aspects of these new technologies. Of course Facebook can be a timewaster, but it doesn't have to be. A blanket ban seems too draconian.

I wonder what approach companies take to sites like Nature Network - http://network.nature.com - a social networking site for scientists. Does this count as work or social life?
Sounds like a good topic for a UKEIG debate!
