Hi
Yes Adobe 8 and Digital Editions does work - but.....
DE cannot be rolled out to Open Access computers - it has to be
installed by the user. The problem - Open Access users are not
administrators and so cannot install DE! So Plymouth has rolled out
Adobe 8 to staff via Run Advertised Programs, with a pop-up instruction
during the process prompting the staff member to also download DE and
giving them a link to the Adobe website
(www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions) to do so.
Open Access computers are remaining on Adobe Reader 7.0.9 until there is
a means to 'package' DE that will allow it to be rolled out centrally
(Adobe current view is that this will not happen as they envisage a
constantly updating process (Wished they'd hurry up and make it sensible
to use and get rid of the black background!).
My advice is to, unless you have to, stick with Reader 7.0.9 - it is
simpler and more logical to use and your users understand it!

Subject: Adobe 8/Adobe Digital editions
Dear All
Now the new term is underway, I would like to start forwarding students'
article requests to their email addresses.
Can I just check that this is now working smoothly with Adobe 8 + Adobe
Digital editions or whether anyone is still encountering any snags?
Thanks
