italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
The French & Italian Division of Classical & Modern Languages &
Literatures at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time
position as Instructor of Italian. The position will be renewable beyond
the initial year upon successful performance. The Department offers a
first and second year program that strives to provide a balanced,
communicative-focused curriculum, and offers a variety of courses at the
third and fourth year levels for students interested in further study or
who wish to complete the Italian minor. The Department also has an
affiliated study abroad program, and is working towards the development of
a faculty-guided program in the near future.
The teaching load is four courses per semester. Among the qualifications
required for appointment is a Master’s degree in Italian, or a closely
related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Italian. Candidates must
demonstrate interest and excellence in teaching Italian language at the
college level. Teaching responsibilities will include working with the
first and second year program, with occasional assignments in upper level
on an individual basis. Duties include an active role in the promotion of
Italian on campus. Native or near-native fluency in Italian is required.
Candidates with course work in Applied Linguistics or Second Language
Studies, in addition to the minimum graduate Italian hours, are encouraged
to apply.
