VERA Winter Workshop - 6th December 2007
"Digital field recording and publication in archaeology"
The VERA project invites you to a workshop entitled "Digital field record=
ing and publication in archaeology" in the Archaeology Department of the
University of Reading on the 6th of December 2007.
The Virtual Research Environment for Archaeology (VERA) project aims to
produce a fully-fledged virtual research environment for the archaeologic=
al community (http://vera.rdg.ac.uk). The JISC funded project, based at the
University of Reading, plans to address user needs in order to create a
suitable Web portal that provides enhanced tools to efficiently document
archaeological excavation and its associated finds for the user community= .
VERA aims to develop utilities that help encapsulate the working practice= s
of current research archaeologists unfamiliar with virtual research
environments.
To aid us in understanding the needs and requirements of the archaeologic=
al community, the workshop will involve discussion on use of the existing
system, usability testing of new developments to the system, hands on
exercises, interviews, and group discussions. The VERA team will discuss
their plans for the future and undertake some user analysis and feedback.=
We also hope to have short presentations from existing users of the datab=
ase system in use on the project (the Integrated Archaeological DataBase,
IAD=
B)
on their experiences of working with collaborative environments. More
details, including a timetable and directions to the university, can= be
found on the VERA website at:
http://vera.rdg.ac.uk/events/winter_workshop.php
Places are limited and priority will be given to all current IADB users, =
but it is expected that there will be places for other archaeologists
interes= ted in the VERA project, so please get in touch if you are
interested!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Emma Jane O'Riordan
