We wish to appoint a Research Associate to conduct GIS work on an AHRC-
funded project: “Troubled Geographies: Two centuries of religious division
in Ireland.” The post holder will work closely with Dr Ian Gregory at
Lancaster University and a team or researchers in the School of Geography
at the Queen’s University Belfast.
The job requires strong GIS and spatial analytical skills. A thorough
knowledge of a GIS software package such as ArcGIS is essential, as is an
understanding of spatial analysis. You will have completed, or be about to
complete, a Masters degree or equivalent in GIS or a closely related
discipline. You will use GIS to conduct research on the relationship
between religious affiliation (as measured by the Irish censuses) and a
range of other demographic, socio-economic and violence-related variables
in Ireland in the nineteenth and twentieth century. Good oral and written
communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work
independently within a network of collaborators.
The closing date for applications is on the 19th of November. The post is
available from 3 December 2007, or as soon as possible thereafter, for 23
months.
Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Ian Gregory on 01524 594967,
