ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd (ABPmer) is an independent
consultancy that specialises in providing advice and undertaking applied
studies in marine and estuarine environments. The company undertakes a
wide range of studies for the ports and coastal sector, and has a
particularly strong commitment to marine research work and the
dissemination of project findings to interested parties.
The areas of work that we are currently involved in include advising on
marine renewable energy projects; designing and monitoring coastal habitat
creation schemes; assessing the impacts of major port developments;
providing guidance on new marine legislation and participating in
strategic EU initiatives.
To expand our range of existing services, we currently have a vacancy for
the following position:
GIS Analyst
ABPmer’s GIS team deals with a variety of work in the fields of GIS, data
management, remote sensing and other IT related topics, combined with a
range of subjects such as environment, coastal protection, renewable
energy locations, flood risk, etc. Duties will include assisting with
project work (figure production, volumetric analysis and data preparation)
and the maintenance and population of the company’s spatial database.
Applicants should preferably have a degree in GIS or a closely related
subject and 1 -2 years commercial experience of ArcGIS and/or MapInfo
focusing on the marine environment. However, consideration will be given
to applicants who have relevant GIS experience from a terrestrial
background. A working understanding of relational databases (SQLServer,
ArcSDE), internet-mapping applications (ArcIMS) and remote sensing (ERDAS
Imagine) and ArcGIS extensions (3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst) would be
desirable, experience of Microsoft Office products, especially Access and
Visual Basic would also be useful. Project management experience and the
ability to write concise project reports will also be an advantage.
