The draft Climate Change Bill has signalled the government's intention
to place all UK public sector bodies into a carbon trading scheme that
will see them forced to reduce their emissions significantly in years to
come. As large ICT systems form a significant part of a modern public
sector body's carbon footprint, ignoring the sustainability implications
of running large data centres, managing the power to your office
computers or even buying new desktop PCs is no longer a 'feel-good'
optional extra. This is an agenda which all public sector IT
professionals must get to grips with fast.
Headstar's major new conference - supported by Socitm and UK CEED, the
charity hosting the UK eWell-Being awards - will be the ideal place to
develop your knowledge in this field and prepare for the future. Topics
to be covered include: Drawing up an ICT sustainability strategy; IT
management practices that reduce power consumption; Managing IT hardware
and software; Monitoring energy use; Energy-saving technologies;
Responsible disposal and recycling of electronic waste; Sustainable ICT
procurement; Changing and influencing staff and citizen behaviour; and
Home working and flexible working.
Attendance normally costs 295 pounds plus VAT for public sector and 395
plus VAT for private sector delegates. But if you register on or before
Friday 19 October, you will receive a full 100 pound early bird
discount. For full details and to register see:
