Geographies of the Creative Industries: place, region and the imagination
Key words:
Creative, cultural industries, economic geography, cultural geography,
imaginative geographies, identity, regeneration, practices, performance,
the region.
This session aims to bring together the existing body of work on fine art
and crafts workers, new media, fashion design and the music industry
amongst other cultural industries and creative practitioners to think
about the relationships between the multiple geographies of these
industries; those of their geographical location, their spatial
manifestations and the imaginative projects they develop. The scope of
geographical work on the creative/cultural industries is as broad as the
range of industries this group defines. We invite papers on all sectors of
the creative/cultural economy, their practices and governance, ideally the
range of papers would be wide, covering a range of geographical scales.
Potential themes include the way in which creative practices and
performances bring about the imagining/re-imagining of a particular place,
city or region; research on the spatial formations and manifestations of
these industries including knowledge communities and learning regions;
the role of the creative/cultural sector in social/economic
regeneration.
