Dear all,
I am looking at developing an application profile (or perhaps it's
really a cludge of application profile "modules") to support the
Copyright Licensing Authority's reporting requirements for scanned
extracts of works (e.g. journal articles, book chapters).
This will need three kinds of metadata:
- metadata describing the extracted work (e.g.,
- metadata describing the course it will be used on, and
- metadata describing the work that it was extracted from.
The first and third of these are OK to deal with - am looking at the DC
Libraries AP and the DC Scholarly Works AP among other things (although
I wouldn't mind finding a spec that individually describes elements of a
bibliographic citation, e.g. "pages from", "pages to", etc).
The metadata about the course: well, I've been looking at the JISC XCRI
spec, which is a really thorough, fantastic piece of work. It's also
very complex and doesn't seem to have much human readable
documentation. Wondered who I could speak to, or where I might find
more information on this? At the moment it seems to encompass most, but
not all of the course properties I need to describe. For instance, I
want to describe the no. of students enrolled on a course (not the
number of places available) and name the lecturers delivering the
course. I'm also not clear how to describe the module identifier and
module name- I found some examples among the case studies but they
seemed to do things differently.
Don't really need this answered on list as it's slightly outwith the
remit of CETIS-Metadata, so am just hoping to make contact with someone
or someones who have experience with XCRI or similar specs, or to be
pointed to some other resources.
Many thanks
Sarah
