Displays
-------------------------------------------------
Venue: Florence, Italy
Dates: April 5 2008

-------------------------------------------------
*** EXTENDED DEADLINE October 15th ****
We invite position papers for the CHI 2008 Workshop "Designing and
Evaluating Mobile Phone-Based Interaction with Public Displays". This
one day workshop will offer an interdisciplinary forum of discussion for
both practitioners and academics interested in designing and evaluating
innovative techniques for mobile-phone based interaction with public
displays.
This one day workshop will facilitate discussions aiming to the
development of a theoretical framework able to explain and predict
user's mobile phone-based interaction with public displays, the
development of a methodological framework able to support the
investigation and evaluation of such interaction. Not at least the
workshop aims to contribute to the development of a taxonomy of
interaction techniques together with a set of guidelines for their
appropriate use.
The workshop accepts original contributions relating (but not limited)
to:
* Designing innovative mobile phone-based interaction techniques with
public displays.
* Designing for engagement with public displays.
* Design methodology and guidelines for interaction techniques.
* Human factors in mobile-phone based interaction techniques with
public displays.
* Methods and tools for evaluating interaction techniques.
* Multi-modal interaction techniques.
* Fun and game related aspects related to innovative interaction
techniques.
* Social aspects related to these interaction techniques: sharing,
privacy, ownership, cooperation, engagement, fun.
Submissions should be sent by October 15, 2007 to Corina Sas at corina
AT comp.lancs.ac.uk and should include:
* A cover letter containing a brief biography and a 250-300 word
description of relevant research.
* A 4-6 page position papers describing case studies of fully developed
or just prototype techniques for mobile phone-based interaction with
public displays. Theoretical approaches to design and evaluation
challenges for such innovative techniques are also welcomed. The papers
should follow the CHI Publication Format.
Participants will be selected on the basis of the originality of their
position paper, and contribution to the workshop goals. At least one
author of accepted papers needs to register for the workshop and for one
day of the conference itself. The workshop will be organized in brief
individual presentations, problem-based group learning activities, group
presentation and full-group discussion of results. For additional
information please visit the workshop website below.
