Research Studentship Work, Interaction and Technology
King's College London
Industrial Case Award
We are seeking applications for a studentship concerned with the analysis of interaction around artefacts, for example with everyday objects like paper documents and deskwork. The studentship is an EPSRC Case Award with Thales Research and Technology and an outcome of the research will be used to inform the design of novel systems to support distributed collaborative work, particularly advanced tabletop displays. The successful applicant will join a research group that specialises in fine-grained, video-based studies of social interaction, drawing on ethnomethodology and conversation analysis. The studentship will cover costs of tuition and a grant of approximately £12,000 per annum, usually free of tax, is provided to cover living costs.
Applications are welcome from those with either a background in the social or computer sciences. Applicants must fulfil the academic and residency requirements for an EPSRC award, They must have the equivalent of at least an upper second first degree, been resident in the UK for the past 3 years and non-EU citizens are not eligible (unless they have indefinite leave to remain from the UK Home Office). EU students who do not meet the residency rule above may be eligible for a fees-only award.
Please send a CV with accompanying letter that describes your interests, and where relevant, experience in undertaking research of this type. Applications should be sent by the 30th October 2007 to Professor Christian Heath and Dr Paul Luff ([log in to unmask], [log in to unmask])
