I have a researcher from Oxford undertaking an Mphil based in Oxford who
will need to use a proportion of our material for her research. I have
been requested to consider loaning the material she wants to look at to
her university [archive] as she is unable because of budget and time to
spend large amounts of time in Manchester. At least some of the
material will be uncatalogued.
I have said that I would look into the matter and make a decision. I
want to make a good case either way to both my institution and the
researcher. Has anyone any experience of loaning archive materials to
another institution for a researcher? Would they be willing to let me
know their experience of such an arrangement? I am concious that I do
not want to set a precedent in such a matter and if anyone has loaned
material for research have they found it to become a recurring issue?
Personally I am a bit confused why she has undertaken such a project
when the records she needs are so far away and are going to cause her
such problems but who am I to question why! [Probably a funding issue]
Many thanks for your help in advance
Jo
