A two day short course "Data Management for Health Research Methods using
Microsoft Access" will take place int the Department of Social Medicine,
University of Bristol from 25th-26th October 2007.

Who the course is intended for: No prior knowledge of MS Access is
required but familiarity with concepts such as "fields" and "records" is
an advantage. The course is intended for people who are likely to work
with data in an epidemiological/health environment and are likely to be
faced with decisions on how data should be stored/manipulated. Some
aspects of the course may require basic mathematical/programming skills.
Objectives/course outline: By the end of the course students should be
able (using Microsoft Access 2000) to:
Design questionnaires and forms which are suitable for accurate data
capture;
Set up a new database including the design of tables;
Have some basic skills in querying data;
Design forms and reports based on one or many tables (includes subforms);
Use macros to automate complex database operation;
Elementary use of Visual Basic programming.
Teaching time: 12 hours. The course will be run as a series of short
lectures and practical exercises.
