The role:
As a Statistical Advisor you’ll contribute to, and often lead portfolio
rating work streams which have statistical modelling as a major element.
Your focus will be very much on doing the analysis and advising others.
You’ll also need to be able to interpret and communicate complex
statistical concepts and results to pricing colleagues and occasionally to
clients.

Your main responsibilities as Statistical Advisor will involve:
- Understanding how a business class is written and stored in a management
information system (MIS)
- Using the appropriate application software to extract this data and
create an appropriate data mart for analysis
- Using pricing methodology to model both the claims and portfolio data
(new sales, lapse and cancellation) within such a data mart
- Evaluating external data sources using both quantitative and qualitative
assessments with the aim of adding value to the pricing process
- Communicating results of analyses effectively, through report writing,
presentations and short explanations to colleagues
Your skills and qualifications for Statistical Advisor will ideally include:
- Maths or Statistics degree (result at least 2.1)
- Ideally studying for a further statistical qualification
- Experience in a statistical modelling role
- Knowledge of industry codes of practice
What we will be looking for in you:
Ideally you’ll be able to identify the key components in complex business
situations and plan the required analysis. You’ll also need to challenge
old practices and embrace new ones and be able to adopt effective
influencing styles with business customers to get their point across even
when it leads to conflicting views.
